Obituary of Gregory P. Gocke

Gregory P. Gocke, 59, of Hightstown, NJ, passed away at home after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, May 5, 2023.

Born in New York City, Gregory was raised in Teaneck and Princeton. He and his family have resided in Hightstown for 24 years. Greg was a talented self-employed carpenter.  

Greg was a man with many interests. He was a writer and a skilled furniture maker. He was fascinated with science and enjoyed sharing the latest astronomical discoveries with anyone who would listen. He enjoyed fly fishing, nature, and was an avid hiker. Greg loved baseball and was a loyal Yankees fan.

Above all else, Greg was a devoted husband and father. In years past, he loved coaching his son, Luke’s teams. He treasured time with Luke and his friends. He would often take them on hikes throughout New Jersey and knew of all the best hidden trails.

Predeceased by his mother, Barbara (Donahoe) Gocke; Greg is survived by his loving wife, Deidre (Hodell) Gocke; his beloved son, Luke; his father, Dr. David Gocke and his wife, Barbara Vees; his mother-in-law, Karen Hodell; his siblings and their spouses, Dr. Christopher Gocke and Dr. Deborah Belchis, Sue and George Wilson, John and Delilah Gocke, Patricia Gocke, Robert and Merideth Gocke, Mary Anne and Ted Kohn, and Meghan Gocke and Dan Rosenblatt; his sister-in-law, whom he loved like a sister, Heather Ruy and her husband, Richard; his brother-in-law, Christopher Hodell; and his many nieces and nephews.

Cremation services were private.  A Private Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Simplicity Funeral and Cremation Services at Glackin Chapel, 136 Morrison Ave., Hightstown, NJ.
