Obituary of Mildred C. McDonnell

Mildred C. McDonnell, 95, of Monroe Township, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023, surrounded by her loving family, at Village Point Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Monroe.

 

Born and raised in New York City, Mildred resided in the Inwood section of Manhattan and the Riverdale section of the Bronx before moving to Monroe in 2019. Mildred worked in the Doctor’s Private Offices for many years at New York Presbyterian Hospital before retiring.

 

Mildred was an avid reader who loved the daily challenge of solving newspaper Jumbles and Crossword puzzles. She enjoyed going on cruises, Broadway musicals, playing the slot machines at Atlantic City and especially traveling with her extended family as often as possible. Known to many as “Grandma”, she will be remembered for her kindness and gentle heart. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother who absolutely adored and treasured her family.

 

Predeceased by her parents, James and Catherine (O’Brien) McDermott; her husband of 67 years, James P. McDonnell; her daughter, Karen Horgan-Peltier; her son-in-law Steven Peltier; her brothers, John McDermott, James McDermott, Peter McDermott; and her sister, Helen McDonnell (McDermott); she is survived by her children, James McDonnell of Riverdale, NY; Michael McDonnell and his wife, Martina of Hollywood, FL; Eileen McDonnell of East Windsor, NJ; Kathleen Faup and her husband, Stephen of East Windsor, NJ; her grandchildren, Ryan, Alexandra, Danielle and Alanna; as well as her many cherished nieces and nephews.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 13, 2023, at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Maxwell Avenue Hightstown, NJ.  Visitation, for extended family and friends to pay their respects to the McDonnell Family, will be held from 10:00 a.m. until Mass commences.

 

Committal services and urn interment will follow at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.

 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mildred’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association by visiting In Memory Of at inmemof.org.

 

Arrangements are under the direction of Simplicity Funeral and Cremation Services at Glackin Chapel, 136 Morrison Avenue, Hightstown, NJ.
