Obituary of Claire Schneider

With much sadness the family of Claire Schneider announces her passing on Friday February 25, 2022. She died peacefully in her sleep at her residence in West Windsor, New Jersey. Claire, the daughter of Louis and Shirley Kanter, was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1933. She moved to Pinellas County Florida with her husband, Jerry Schneider, in 1972. She resided there until after her retirement from the Pinellas County Schools.

Claire was a devoted wife to Jerry (who predeceased her), a loving mother, and an affectionate grandmother. A lifelong educator, she was loved by her students, their parents, and her colleagues. Claire not only enjoyed teaching but also learning, often taking classes at local colleges. She was an avid reader, especially of mysteries and biographies. She appreciated fine art and the performing arts, especially music and paintings. Claire also was a bit of an artist. Her needlepoint works are cherished by her family. Gaming was a regular activity for Claire with family and friends. It does not matter whether it was cards, Mahjong, dominoes, Rummikub, or a board game – Claire excelled at them all but more importantly loved to play the games. Claire was a lifetime member of Hadassah and active in several retired educator organizations.

Claire is survived by her children, Cheryl, Jay, Jack and Lisa and by her ten grandchildren (nine of which are boys).

The family will have a graveside service at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens (1750 Curlew Road, Palm Harbor, FL) on Saturday April 9, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Friends and colleagues are invited to join the family for the service.
