When you hear that a friend has lost a loved one, your heart goes out to them. You want to be there for them and you want to support them around the services they are planning for their loved one with funeral homes in Hightstown, NJ. There are many different ways to support someone who is going through a hard time. Here are a few things you might consider doing.

Acknowledge Their Loss And Feelings

The first thing you will want to do is acknowledge that your friend has suffered a loss and they are having a lot of feelings and emotions. You aren’t going to want to try and pick up with them where you left off the last time you were together because they are in a very different place now. Let them know that you are sorry for their loss and that you are there for them, thinking of them every step of the way. Just hear that from you can help them know they have people behind them.

Be Available To Them

You will want to make yourself available to your friend when they need you. That might mean ensuring that you answer their calls whenever they come in or that you reply to their texts or emails promptly so they know you are there for them. You could also attend their loved one’s services to support them, even if you didn’t know the person. Being there to talk later, after the services are behind them, can also be important to them.

Attend The Funeral Service

When the funeral service happens, if you are invited, or if it is open to the public, it is always nice to go in support of your friend. Perhaps you knew their loved one as well and you are feeling emotions and grief over the loss, too. Even if you didn’t know their loved one, being there to support your friend throughout the funeral can really mean a lot to them. They know they can count on you when they see you there.

Offer Your Help

You could also offer to help your friend around the funeral or in their home. See if you can volunteer at the reception, for example, greeting people who arrive at the service, or cleaning things up after. Ask your friend if you can run errands for them, or perhaps if they need groceries that you could get when you go out. You could mow for them, clean for them, walk their dog, take their kids to the park, or anything else you feel they might need help with during this hard time.

Provide For Their Needs

Your friend might be worried more about their loved one’s needs and their family members, and no so much their own needs. You may by able to provide for them through delivering meals or setting up a meal train.
