There are a variety of options with funeral homes in East Windsor, NJ when a loved one passes away and if you are the person in charge of the decisions, you have to figure out what direction to take. The funeral homes only carry honorable options so no matter what you choose, your loved one’s needs will be met in a respectful and dignified manner. In that way, you can’t go wrong. How you decide what you are going to do is completely up to you. You will want to consider what your loved one would have wanted, of course, but you also have to look at what the family needs, what budget you have to work with, and so on. One thing to consider is a graveside service.

What Are Graveside Services?

Graveside services are what they sound like—services held at your loved one’s graveside. This is something that many families do in connection with a funeral. The visitation occurs, then the funeral and after that, the guests process to the cemetery where there is a short burial service at the grave. However, you can also cut out the other services and have just a simple graveside service if you want something less expensive or something more to the point.

What Should You Wear?

Most people feel comfortable dressing for a graveside service like they would for a funeral. They want to be in attire that is appropriate for mourning. While black is still a popular funeral color, it’s not required. You can wear other dark colors or even things that are lighter, but are still conservative and neutral. It’s best to stay away from bright colors and patterns. Always follow the family’s requests if there are certain things they want people to wear.

Who Should You Invite?

Graveside services are sometimes smaller than funeral and memorial services. You can gather your close family and friends around the grave in an intimate group. But, in reality, you are in charge and you can invite whoever you want to this portion of the event. If this is the only event you are having, you will want to choose guests with care.

How Long Do They Last?

The services that occur by the grave are generally shorter than other services. If it’s the only service you have, it might be slightly longer, but it doesn’t have to be, either. You can have someone say a few words about your loved one, share a reading, or have certain people speak and share memories. Again, you get to do what you want, but there are also standards you can follow if that’s easier.

Do You Have Other Services Around Them?

You can, but you don’t have to. Again, graveside services often take place after funerals, but they can be the only service you have. Or, you can have a graveside service first to lay your loved one to rest with funeral homes in East Windsor, NJ, and then later, you can have a memorial service.
