When you have to work with funeral homes in Monroe, NJ, you might want certain things for your loved one, but there are other things you aren’t sure about. It’s completely normal to feel uncertain moving forward. One thing that can help is understanding the different services, what they mean, and what all they entail. Once you know what they are and how they would be set up, you can decide if they are right for your family and your loved one. Here are some of the services available and, keep in mind, if there are other services that you have questions about, the professionals are there to give you the answers you need.

Direct Cremation Options

You likely know what cremation means, but direct cremation is straightforward and simple. Instead of having services, your loved one would head right into cremation and once that process is complete, you can do whatever you want for your loved one on whatever timeline you want to do it. It can take the decision-making pressure off of you and allow you to plan things whenever you are ready.

Visitation Services

Visitation services generally happen before funerals, but they can also take place prior to cremation. During this type of service, the person who died is present in their casket, generally with the lid open, but not always. It’s more of an open house with a range of hours where people can come and go, see the person who died, and visit with the family to pass on condolences. These services can give closure and the opportunity to say a final goodbye.

Traditional Funerals

Traditional funerals are ceremonial and have a lot of things to them that people expect. They are usually formal, somber affairs that resemble somewhat of a church service. They include readings, a eulogy, songs, and other such elements. The casket is often present at the event and people process to the cemetery afterwards.

Burial Services

Burial services often occur right after the funeral. The guests process from the funeral home or wherever the funeral took place to the cemetery for a short burial service. Burial services can also occur in a more direct manner. Instead of having a funeral, there can be a direct burial process. It’s more like direct cremation where burial happens soon after death without other things beforehand.

Many families like to have a reception after a funeral or cremation service. It’s a more casual time for family to gather, grieve together, share stories, have a meal, and just spend time with one another. Not every family can get together very often so this time can be a very special time to catch up and be around that kind of love and support.
