Christopher Scott Mahler "HokieTopher" passed away on July 7, 2026, at the age of 58. Born in Morristown, NJ on June 7, 1968, Christopher spent his early years enjoying trips to Cape Henlopen campground, attending summer camps with his brother, and he valued spending time at his stepfamily’s property in the Adirondack Park, which remained a consistent part of his adult life as well. He spent his teenage years in Parsippany and Maplewood, NJ and graduated from Columbia High School before attending Virgina Polytechnic Institute (VT) for architecture. After college, he continued to work for Potter Architects as a draftsman until he passed. He grew his family over the years, starting with his wife, Christine and her son, Tyler, followed by his daughter, Elizabeth. He was a proud husband, father, son, and brother, and was able to watch his daughter graduate college and lay both of his parents to rest prior to his passing.  

Over the years, Chris built a life centered around family. Anyone that had the pleasure of knowing Chris, knows that if you were his friend, he considered you his family. Christopher was a strong believer of "always be mindful of the needs of others" and made a point of instilling that mentality in anyone he met, doing anything to help in times of need. Chris was known for his unwavering courage and humor throughout his eight-year battle with cancer. Despite his heath, he found joy in nature, watching football, playing golf, music, traveling, and spending time with family or friends. 

Christopher leaves behind his wife, Christine Mahler; daughter; Elizabeth Mahler; brother; Jeffery Mahler; and a large extended family from both of his parents' second marriages. He was preceded in death by his son, Tyler Hettel; mother, Carol Sherman; and father, Glen Mahler.

To honor Christopher’s life, his wife and daughter will hold a celebration of life locally and a gathering on Piseco Lake, where he and his family created many memories over the years.
