Bette Butler Obituary

Bette “Bo” Love Butler, 92 years old, of East Windsor NJ, peacefully passed away at home on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

Born in Jersey City, NJ, on October 5, 1933, Bette attended grammar school at #37 in Jersey City, NJ, then graduated from Ferris Wheel High School in ‘June 1951’ there she participated in school activities such as student council, choir, and was a member of the school Corridor Patrol program. Bette met the love of her life, a handsome man named, Charles Butler, they married soon after on August 25, 1951, and later welcomed seven beautiful and loving children into the world. They settled in Jersey City, NJ where they raised their growing family. Mrs. Butler loved doing hair as a side hobby, her favorite songs were by Whitley Phipps, Andrae Crouch and yes ‘The Bee Gees’. She loved watching Gospels shows, and TV shows like, J*A*G and ‘Murder She Wrote’.  Bette worked for various companies including Western Electric, Harbor & Row Publishing, Trinity Temple Academy (SDA) School and the Dutch Neck School as the Secretary to the Principal until her retirement in June 1997. She even opened a small day care called ‘Loves Little Lambs’ based from her home for working parents who needed help.

Bette loved the Lord and joined the Beth-El SDA Church where she was baptized by Pastor Ivan Warden in September 1979. She was very active in the church giving bible study lessons, singing in church choir and serving as a deaconess. Bette loved to travel, a visit to Bette’s home was also a journey in itself. Her cherished spoons displayed on a map proudly showcased the many states and countries she had visited, each piece holding a memory, a story and a standing testament to a life well lived and places well loved. She devoted time to teaching vocational bible school during the summer months while also assisting with driving the church bus for the students. Bette had a passion for giving back to the children at the church; they were her pride and joy, but don’t get it twisted Bette didn’t take no mess, she was a true disciplinarian. Growing up in the Butler household, you answered with “Yes Ma’am” or “Yes Sir” or “No Ma’am” or “No Sir”, they demanded respect. She found joy in writing and held a deep love for reading. Her room was filled with books too many to count. She would often say “if you want to learn how to read well, you should start with romance novels or anything that truly holds your interest, because that way, you would never get bored. As always, she was right. Bette and her husband, Charles, later join the Hightstown SDA Church of Hightstown NJ, where they made their church home and a host of friends. Once Bette was unable to attend church in person her church family would often visit on Sabbath day to commune and sing songs of praise, she really enjoyed those special times.
